Andy Austick’s Mk3 VR6
COTM November 2009

They say that bad luck runs in three’s…well not in the case of this MK3, in fact this particular Golf has another special number attributed to it…Meet 26 year old Andy Austick & his 96’ MK3 Golf 2.8 VR6!

Regular lowlife contributor & all round good guy Andy’s VR is easily one of the sweetest rides in the lowlife stable & with a staggering 1,000,000 bhp under the bonnet (according to Andy) who can blame him for loving his car!

Andy; who hails from sunny Killamarsh – Sheffield seems to have hit the nail on the head with a sweet blend of enhancements that really set his ride apart from the rest.
Subtlety is the key here and dare I say it? An OEM+ feel, power-wise the car sports a RAM induction kit, cat replacement & performance exhaust, inside both driver & passengers can feel a little more comfortable when seated in a full Recaro interior.

When Andy got the car it had a Vento front end, now while some MK3 Golf owners go out of there way to find the parts for such a swap Andy decided he would prefer a more original front end and reverted back to the standard Golf arrangement, leaving the painting up to good mate Wez (BigWez).

Perhaps the finishing touch then for this stunning ride is those gorgeous rims; Mercedes 8 Holes with 25mm adaptors & a healthy drop on FK coilovers…surely enough to give anyone a touch of the ‘green eyed monster’!

Congratulations to Andy for winning lowlifedubz.com car of the month for November 2009, now over to the main man for those all important questions…

How long have you owned this vehicle & what made you buy it?
I have owned this car for about 7 months, i actually bought it off a mate who got it incredibaly cheap off flea-bay for a staggering £517 then spent a few quid on it. I never rated mk3’s til he took me for a spin and the noise alone sold it to me! Since putting the coilies on it handles pretty well too!! She isn’t perfect but i love my VR!!
What’s your favourite aspect of this vehicle?
The engine, I have owned 16 cars in my time and i have driven many, nothing drives quite like it, its just a continuous delivery of torque.
What’s the most unusual thing you’ve done in it/used it for?
Maybe not unusual but taxi’ing a couple or “large” ladies down sheffield on saturday evening and i think it removed about 5000 miles worth of tread from my rear tyres rubbing constantly on the inner arch!!
Future plans: Nothing as of yet just goin to run her for abit, sort a few niggly probs out!! I love how the car is right now!! Oh apart from refurb the wheels after our lass had hold of it!
If you didn’t drive a VAG vehicle what would you drive?
67′ Chevy Impala.
