Sam Ford’s Polo 9n
COTM August 2009

First cars can often hold a special sentiment for drivers & young Sam Ford’s is no exception, his jazz blue polo 9n is taking shape to be a real class dub, ready to compete with the big boys during show season. To say that Sam has gone from learner driver to slammed dub cruiser in a matter of mere months is a revelation in itself. Congratulations to Sam on winning Lowlife Car Of The Month (LCOTM) for August 2009, lets hope it’s the first of many accolades for this fresh polo.

Having worked on this car myself I can tell you that it’s as mint as it looks in the pic’s, Sam’s love & care for his ride are evident when you meet him; polish in one hand and a screwdriver in the other to whip his front number plate off!
I love the way this polo looks, the colour is beautiful & the wheels set it off a treat, I for one am looking forward to seeing how this particular tale unfolds…

Let’s hear a bit from the main man himself:
Name:
Sam Marc Ford.
Age:
17 years old at the moment but i will be 18 yrs old in September.
Hometown:
Retford, Nottinghamshire.
Occupation:
I am an apprentice to be a Panel beater/ paint sprayer at Retford Autofinishers.
Favourite tipple:
A nice bottle of Budweiser (I call it Dubweiser).
Make/Model/Year:
I own a Jazz Blue Pearl VW polo 9N which is a 2002 on a 52 plate, ( 28 days off being an 03 plate) Unfortunately it is only a 1.2E due to the sky high insurance!
Engine size:
1.2 , 3cylinder
Modifications/work carried out (e.g resto):
Within an hour of getting my new car home, I had washed it and the polo 1.2 badges had gone. During the next few weeks, I had sprayed my vw badges satin black. Then I decided that a debadged grill would look better so i purchased and fitted one to my car. Also i have uprated my stereo and inserted a sony xplod with a sub and amp to give the full effect. Since then, I have added AP Coilovers which are wound down 100mm and obviously my polished audi pepperpots to complete the look. Most recently, I have added a supersport backbox exhaust which hopefully makes it sound a little better and I have had a genuine vw roof spoiler which has been sprayed and fitted very kindly by Graham Mapplebeck at Retford Autofinishers where i work.
BHP (if known):
Its currently running at a massive 55bhp!

How long have you owned this vehicle & what made you buy it?
I bought the vehicle in December 2008 when it had 87460 miles on the clock. By this time, i had only been learning to drive for 3 months so i was only on a provisional license. I bought this vehicle because there are not many modified 9n’s about and I always like to be different. Another reason why i bought it was just simply because it is a vw which are german built so i knew that it will be reliable and safe. In the 8 months I have owned it, it is starting to take its own look.
What’s your favourite aspect of this vehicle?
I think that my favourite aspect of the vehicle would probably be the audi pepperpots because they are still OEM wheels but with a twist to be different as there are not that many polished sets about. Its just a shame they weren’t 16×8 as it would fill the arches more and show its full potential. My other favourite part of the 9N is my personalised number plate which I purchased in July 2008, when i saw it advertised I knew I just had to buy it. It is S4MMF, which stands for Sam Marc Ford (S4M M F) and makes my polo unique.
What’s the most unusual thing you’ve done to it/used it for?
I have not yet done anything unusual but that will come later so just wait and see!
Future plans:
I would really like to change my cloth interior to leather. And possibly have a respray in riviera blue or ibis white.
If you didn’t drive a VAG vehicle what would you drive?
I would drive a Porsche 911 carrera 4s if i won the lottery!!! ( Can Porsche not count as VAG???)
Thanks:
I would just like to thank Paul Layhe for fitting my coilovers, James Blenkinsop for selling me the polished audi pepperpots. Mark,Neil,Martin and most of all my boss Graham Mapplebeck for all of there help.
I would also like to thank all of LowlifeLifedubz for supporting me and for being so helpful. Thanks again, Look forward to the next meet!!!
